Plaza Urology Group

Project Information

The Plaza Urology Group houses offices, exam rooms, and support spaces for six physicians and their staff.  The site was conveniently located between two major hospitals but suffered from proximity to unattractive industrial development and neighborhoods where crime was a concern.  The Owner requested that the building be “cheerful and light-filled” while maintaining privacy for patients and staff.

We responded by cladding the single-story building in synthetic stone which gave us an exterior that was both tough and tactile.  The main entrance was placed to the rear which both made it more private and concealed the parking from the street.  On the street-side the building presents a double-height tower element with natural green-space and constructed wetlands designed to hold native plants.

Inside the stone veneer is matched with wood to create a warm and calming environment.  The patient exam rooms all have exterior windows located high in the wall to bring in the maximum amount of light while maintaining privacy.  Corridors have high ceilings and clerestory windows to bring light deep into the interior of the building.
